How Present Wrapping and Speech Delivery are Related

Nov 28, 2023

Do you like to wrap a present so it looks absolutely amazing and it’s viewed as the best wrapped present to have ever existed, aiming to achieve the most perfectly wrapped present in the whole world for that moment?

Or, do you like wrapping a present to make the process of unwrapping it fun but definitely an adventure for its receiver? Like incorporating popping bubble wrap amongst multiple layers of paper, so opening the present is like a pass-the-parcel game for one. Or do you like to tape every inch of the present making it difficult for the receiver to open it?

Maybe you do not care about the present wrapping at all, choosing to get it and give it to the person exactly how you bought it from the store.

Now, please reflect on how you like to deliver a speech? How do you present yourself at a networking event? Is your natural go to for a prepared speech or impromptu event similar to one of the present wrapping scenarios mentioned above?

You may not realise this but you get to choose how to deliver the message you speak just like you get to choose how you wrap a present. We all have our natural styles, just like how we prefer to present a gift. You can choose your delivery to suit the environment you are speaking in while being yourself. Here is an idea on how I do it.

Own who you are. Yes, accept it, love it, forgive it, value it. You are worthy and you always have everything you need for every present moment you live. We all need to remember that, especially when we are stepping outside of our comfort zone to speak in a new or different environment,

Use the volume dial but never have it on zero. I imagine myself adjusting my personality to different circumstances/environments like a volume dial…or the plus and minus volume icons for those who never saw a volume dial before.

I will use my voice as an example. I have a strong voice that I can project with ease and there are some who made fun of it. There was a moment in my life, the jokes about it impacted me negatively and I needed to learn from it. I needed to change the way I perceived my own voice, to see it as a strength (both literally and figuratively). The process I went through to change the way I perceived my voice, helps me present clearly so all could hear my message and I know when and how to adjust my volume and how I use of voice in different settings.

From this experience I learnt to own my voice which is a part of who I am and the process taught me how to adjust for different circumstances while still being myself.

Just like how you wrap presents, your natural delivery style is important because it’s part of you and helps magnify your message. Owning your style contributes to your confidence levels when speaking. Owning who I am and adjusting my volume when appropriate is how I approach my delivery in any public speaking, presentation and communication setting. I feel you can too. Maybe I could should you how through one of our services at Blossoming Speaker?

All the best, Susan.
